About Program

Vanavil, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, leads a focused campaign against child begging through the operation of a Child-Friendly Space in Velankanni. This site has been identified as one of 51 worship locations in India where stronger child protection measures are urgently needed.

Our team works to prevent women from using infants and small children for begging — a practice that is often disguised as sticker selling or other seemingly benign activities. This form of exploitative begging puts children at immediate risk and deprives them of their right to safety and education.

We work in active coordination with local police authorities, the Panchayat administration, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and other community stakeholders to intervene, educate, and redirect families toward more sustainable alternatives — ensuring children are kept safe and given the opportunity to grow up in a secure and supportive environment.

It’s a small gift from you, a big change for them.
